The second edition of the Open water swimming Las Playas (The Beaches) of Lloret de Mar is here, a 3-kilometer trial of open water swimming, from Lloret de Mar beach to the Santa Cristina beach, which will take place on Sunday, September 25. On Sunday, September 25, a new edition of the Open water swimming Las Playas (The Beaches) of Lloret de Mar will take place, organized by the Club C.E. Lloret Aigües Obertes. This 3-kilometer swim from Lloret de Mar beach to Santa Cristina beach celebrates this year the second edition.
The trial is recommended for those over 18 years old although people over 16 old will be allowed to participate with the authorization of a parent or guardian. Still, it will be the organization that decides the participation of the minor under strict technical criteria.
To participate, is mandatory to use the swimming cap provided by the organization, swimming goggles, swimsuit, and the chip timing provided by the organization placed on the ankle. It is allowed to use aquatic watches or GPS and wetsuits, but the use of aquatic MP3 or similar is not allowed (because they prevent a correct hearing of the safety warnings).
The Open Water Swimming maintains the same itinerary as the first edition. Participants will swim from Lloret de Mar beach, in front of the town hall, to Santa Cristina beach, at the southern end of the town. During this itinerary, swimmers will traverse some of the most emblematic coves and beaches of Lloret de Mar, such as Cala Banys, Fenals beach and Sa Boadella.
The itinerary will be marked by buoys located every 500 meters and the participants will have to swim between the buoys and the coast, leaving the buoys to the left of the swimmer. The boat will go in front of the first swimmer to determine the way and the participants will be also guided by kayaks and paddle surfs to set the direction.
The time to finish the Open Water Swimming is two hours; the registration will be closed after this time. The organization will have support boats to assist the participants who need it.
Registration for the Open Water Swimming is open from mid-July. You can register to participate on the Mundo Deportivo website.
The first registration fee was €28. From August 31 and until the registration ends or the registration deadline expires, the registration fee will be €35.
Registration is restricted to a maximum of 300 participants and the registration deadline ends on September 23 at 11:59 p.m. After this date, no more registrations can be made (even in person on the trial day).
The Open Water Swimming participants will have a free parking service at the Obreria de Santa Cristina (Camí de Santa Cristina, 2, Lloret de Mar) before 7:30 a.m. showing the proof of registration at the entrance.
To collect the chip participation and the swimmer's bag will take place the day before the race from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in front of the Lloret de Mar town hall and on the race day between 7:15 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. on the beach of Santa Cristina, in both cases you will have to present the DNI, NIE and/or passport.
The participants will be transferred from Santa Cristina beach to the starting point at 7:30 a.m. by the boat provided by the organization. A coach will pick up the participants at the Santa Cristina beach parking at 8:10 a.m. to take them to the starting point.
Once the Open Water Swimming is over, the swimmers will have a provisioning service with the delivery of the chip and the prizes will be awarded to the winners of the different categories. The first 250 registered have guaranteed the catamaran transfer from Santa Cristina to Lloret de Mar beach; the rest of the participants will be able to travel by bus.
