Tips for travel cheap in Lloret de Mar

14.06.2022 The world of Rosamar

Traveling to the Costa Brava is not as expensive as you think. If you are thinking of booking your holidays on the Catalan coast this year, in this post we bring you some tips to travel cheaper to the town of Lloret de Mar. Do not miss them!

1. Travel in low season

Generally, traveling off-season is much cheaper. The trip, the accommodation and sometimes even activities will be much cheaper in low season, as it is the time of year when fewer people decide to organize their vacations.

The high season in Lloret de Mar coincides with the summer months, as is a town located on the Costa Brava. July and August are usually the most crowded months because of the hot temperatures and the incredible location by the Mediterranean Sea.

We recommend you travel to the town of Lloret during the months of June and September, when temperatures are still quite high and the city is usually less crowded, or during the rest of the year, when the destination continues to receive fewer tourists and you can enjoy of this maritime city with all its essence.

2. Get cheap flights

One of the keys to cheap travel is to get cheap flights. The best way to get cheap flights is to plan your trip in advance and have flexibility of dates, which will allow you to choose between different combinations of flights.

You can find cheap flights by searching the websites of different airlines or using a flight comparator (Skyscanner, Edreams, Kayak...). You can also sign up for notifications and alerts to receive new offers.

The city of Lloret de Mar is in the south of the Costa Brava, just 80 kilometers from Barcelona and 40 kilometers from Girona, two main cities with their own airport and good connections with the town of Lloret de Mar.

3. Look for cheap accommodation and book in advance

Just like getting the cheap flights, the best way to find cheap accommodation is to book early. The time of year with the most influx of tourists on the Costa Brava is undoubtedly summer. Especially if you plan to travel during the months of July and August, we recommend you book your hotel in advance.

Rosamar Hotels has five hotels four-star and four-star superior a few meters from Lloret de Mar beach and the city center. There are hotels for adults only, such as Hotel Rosamar Es Blau Adults Only +21 and Hotel Rosamar Maxim Adults Only +21, and hotels for families, such as Hotel Rosamar Marítim, Hotel Rosamar Garden Resort and Hotel Rosamar & Spa.

4. Walk a lot and use public transport

Lloret de Mar is a city that can be easily explored on foot or by public transport, as it has a good bus connection. The costs involved in private transport on a trip are usually quite high, so we advise you to avoid it whenever you can during your stay.

You can easily move around the center of the town on foot or by bicycle (you will find bike lanes in the Rieral area and the Fenals neighbourhood) and if you need to move to areas further from the center, such as the Santa Clotilde Gardens, Cala Canyelles or Santa Cristina beach, the bus is the best option. You can check the schedules on the LloretBus website.

5. Visit the city for free or at the best Price

Visit one of the information offices in the city and find out what to visit and when in the town of Lloret de Mar. The offices are located at the city entrance (Avinguda de les Alegries, 3), in the Maritime Museum ( Passeig Camprodon i Arrieta, 1) and at the bus station (Avinguda Vila de Blanes, 37), in summer you will also find one more on the Fenals promenade (Pg. Ferran Agulló, s/n).

To discover all the places to see in the city, look our post about what to visit in Lloret de Mar. Many of these places, such as the Church of Sant Romà, the modernist cemetery or the Dona Marinera viewpoint, are free; others, such as the Santa Clotilde Gardens, the Casa Font Museum or the Maritime Museum del Mar, you need to buy a ticket to access. Get tickets at the best price on the Patrimoni Lloret website.

6. Avoid eating in tourist places

As a rule, if you want to eat cheaply, you should avoid tourist places. It is a fact, tourists often fall into the traps that are set and end up eating in places designed specifically to attract travellers, where they charge overprices for food that is far from traditional cuisine.

If you want to enjoy the authentic Lloret de Mar local food, stay away from the tourist restaurants. We recommend you two restaurants in Lloret de Mar where you can enjoy the best local cuisine.

A few meters from the modernist cemetery of the city, you can find Can Sabata, a rustic restaurant where you can choose from a wide variety of Mediterranean rice dishes. In front of the Fenals beach, you will find the legendary Planiol restaurant, a perfect place to eat paella, fideuá or a good seafood dish

7. Use cards to travel

In Lloret de Mar, as in the whole Spain, the official currency of the European Union is the euro (€). Although there are those who prefer to travel with cash, in most establishments in the Catalan town you can pay by card.

If you are going to travel to this destination and your country does not use the same currency, a good option for this trip (and in fact any other trip where another type of currency is used) is to use cards such as N26 or Revolut.

These cards are used in the same way as any other bank cards, the advantage is that they do not charge you a fee for using them. If you need to withdraw money, with these cards you can do it at the bank, ATMs and other exchange offices in the city free of charge.
