On Sunday, November 23, the 5th edition of the Corriols de l'Àvia bicycle ride will be held in Lloret de Mar, organized by the Penya Ciclista Lloret and supported by the Catalan Cycling Federation (FCC). The test will have two distances, a shorter one of 25 kilometers and a longer one of 37 kilometers, which can be done on a mountain bike or electric mountain bike.
As usual, the march will consist of two routes:
- Short distance: 25 kilometers and 750 meters of positive slope.
- Long distance: 37 kilometers and 1.300 meters of positive gradient.
The route, which will take place along paths and greenways in the town of Lloret de Mar, will be signposted for the test, so the use of GPS is not necessary. There will also be different liquid and solid supplies during the test.
Registration to participate in the cycling march is now open and will end on Monday 1 November at 11:59 p.m. or when the 500 available places are filled.
The test is open to all those who want to participate if they are over 10 years old. Minors must have written authorization from their father, mother, or legal guardian as they are allowed to participate.
The registration price is the same for both distances. For participants federated to the Catalan Cycling Federation (FCC) it is 20€ and for non-federated participants, who will also have to fill out the one-day license that includes the insurance provided by the organization, it is 23€.
Registrations are strictly personal and non-transferable. Therefore, if a participant cannot compete, the registration fee will not be refunded.
This year, the organization commits to respecting the environment and providing reusable paper cups and ribbons. They will also put containers at the arrival to throw away the plastic/paper of the gels and bars at the end of the test. Participants who throw plastic or paper from gels or bars in the forest will be excluded from the time trial and the draws.
Race numbers can be collected on Saturday 22 November, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at the WaterWorld facilities. This will also be the start and finish point for the race. The organisers strongly recommend that participants from Lloret de Mar and the surrounding area collect their race numbers on Saturday to avoid congestion on the day of the race.
If it is not possible to collect it the day before, race numbers can also be collected on Sunday 23rd between 7:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. at the same location.
The first start will be for e-bikes, scheduled for 9:00 a.m. At 9:15 a.m., the long route will start, and finally, at 9:30 a.m., the short route will start.
Cyclists will follow the Local Police car to the point where the actual route begins. It is important to stay behind the vehicle to ride safely, especially in bike lane areas.
New this year, electric bikes will enjoy a special 2.6 km loop at kilometre 30, designed to add fun. It will be clearly marked with red arrows and will have support staff.
During the event, the organisers will establish several mandatory checkpoints to ensure the smooth running of the ride. The most important will be the diversion between the long and short routes: all cyclists who have not reached this point before 11:15 a.m. will be automatically redirected to the short route.
Likewise, timing will end in the WaterWorld car park area, where the finish line will also be located.
Participants will have access to two refreshment stations offering solid and liquid refreshments.
The first will be located at kilometre 14, coinciding with the turnoff between the short and long routes.
The second will be available around kilometre 26, exclusively for cyclists participating in the long route.
Both points are designed to provide energy and allow athletes to recover their strength before continuing.
