If you visit the city of Girona, you can already find the Christmas lights in the streets. On the afternoon of Friday 24 November, a parade was held with the accompaniment of the Girona Marxing Band and the Colla de Gegantons de Girona from Carrer de la Creu to Plaça de Catalunya, and at 6 p.m. the Christmas lights were switched on in Plaça de Catalunya with a musical performance by Jim, winner of the second edition of the TV3 programme Eufòria.

For more than a month, in Plaça de la Independència you can find the traditional Girona Christmas market, inaugurated on 24th November after the lights switch-on with a popular chocolatada and open until 5th January, from 10:30 am to 9 pm (except on 25th and 26th December and 1st January, when it will be closed).
You can find more than twenty wooden stalls where you can find all kinds of local craft products, gift items, fir trees, tions, lights and Christmas decorations, wooden toys, textile accessories, jewellery, ceramics and ornaments made of glass or wood, as well as artisan food products such as sausages, cheeses, nougat and seasonal sweets.

The emblematic Pont de Pedra will be the venue for the mythical craft fair. From 2 December to 5 January, from 10 a.m. to 8.30 p.m., various Girona artisans will be displaying the art of their craft in this emblematic part of the city.
At their stalls you can find bookbinding, jewellery, glass crafts, cosmetics, pyrography, ceramics, textiles and fashion, accessories, macramé, etc.
From 21 December until 7 January, Palau Firal de Girona will be hosting a 900 m² ice rink, one of the largest in Catalonia, as well as an ice slide measuring 2.5 metres high, 27 metres long and with three lanes for sledging down.
The opening hours are from 10 am to 9 pm, except on 25 December, when it will be closed; on 24 and 31 December and 7 January, when it will be open until 7 pm; on 1 and 6 January, when it will be open from 4 to 9 pm, and on 5 January, when it will be open until 2 pm. Entrance and skate hire costs 11€ and going down the slide 4 times costs 4€.
As usual at Christmas, Girona Grand Christmas Circus returns to Devesa Park. The show has been completely revamped to celebrate its tenth anniversary, with a line-up of big stars who have won awards at the world's leading festivals.
All performances will take place between Monday 25 December and Saturday 30 December. Tickets are priced at 11€ and are available at the Municipal Theatre box office and on the website.
During this time of the year, it is practically obligatory to participate in some bingo, or as it is called in Catalonia, a quina.
You can find them on 19 December at 5pm at the Centre Cívic Santa Eugènia; on 21 December at 6pm at the Güell Espai Jove; on 22 December at 6pm at the Centre Cívic Sant Narcís, at 7pm at the Centre Cívic Pont Major and at 8pm at the Espai Cívic Can Gibert.

The most typical theatrical representation of Christmas in Catalonia is Els Pastorets, a play that combines the birth of Jesus, the struggle between good and evil between angels and demons, and various stories and dialogues of the shepherds that recall the first Christmas.
In the city of Girona, this performance will take place on 25, 26, 29 and 30 December at the Teatre Municipal de Girona. The play will maintain its family and musical spirit with a different, inclusive and innovative format.
One of the most traditional sporting events of the Christmas holidays is the traditional San Silvestre race, which is held on New Year's Eve. The 18th San Silvestre race and the 13th Mini San Silvestre race will be held at Pavelló Municipal Girona-Fontajau on 31 December.
The adult race is 5 kilometres long and will start at 6 pm, while the children's race is 1.2 kilometres long and will start at 5 pm. The race bibs for the San Silvestre race cost between 12€ and 15€ and those for the Mini San Silvestre race cost 4€, and registration will close on 30 December at 23:59h or when 2,000 bibs have been sold.
As every year, the Three Wise Men will arrive in the city of Girona on the evening of 5 January. Melchior, Gaspar and Balthazar, accompanied by their royal entourage, will pass through all the city's neighbourhoods to collect letters from the little ones.
