On Sunday, March 30, the 44th Popular March of the Hermitages of Lloret de Mar will take place, an 18-kilometre route through the hermitages of the town. The 44th Popular March of the Hermitages will take place on Sunday, March 30 in the town of Lloret de Mar. It is an 18-kilometre route that passes through the most emblematic hermitages of the town.
It will start at 8 a.m. in the Plaza de la Vila and will visit the Hermitage of Sant Quirze, the Hermitage of Les Alegries, the Monastery of Sant Pere del Bosc and the Hermitage of Santa Cristina, as well as the Angel monument, the chapel of La Mare de Déu de Gràcia and Creu de Terme, ending at Lloret de Mar beach.
The march is organized by Xino Xano, a cultural entity from Lloret de Mar whose objective is to promote and organize socio-cultural actions that contribute to the knowledge and recovery of local roots.
To participate in the 44th edition of the Popular March of the Hermitages you can register at El Puntet (Avinguda de Vidreres, 58), El Puntet de Fenals (Plaça de Fenals) or on the Xino Xano's website.
The registration fee until 28 March will be €10, while registration on the day of the march will be €15.
The route has a total of 18 kilometers with a positive difference of more than 415 meters, although the technical difficulty is moderate. The complete walking route can be completed in a maximum of 4 hours.
The departure of the march will take place at 8 a.m. in Plaça de la Vila in Lloret de Mar, in front of the Town Hall, in the direction of the Hermitage of Sant Quirze (km 2), 200 meters from the tourist office and the modernist cemetery. The route continues in the direction of the Ermita de Les Alegries (km 4.2), located north of the town.
Next, on Avenida de les Alegries, take the road that leads to Sant Pere del Bosc, where you will find the Angel Monument (km 6.2), a monument with the figure of an angel with outstretched metal wings that indicates with the right hand the path of the hermitage of the Virgen de Gracia.
Advancing towards the monastery of Sant Pere del Bosc, we find the Creu de Terme and the Chapel of the Mare de Déu de Gràcia. The chapel is located right at the crossroads of several hiking trails and the Creu de Terme just before reaching the square of the Monastery of Sant Pere del Bosc.
Next is the Monastery of Sant Pere del Bosc (km 8.6), which has its origins in an 11th century hermitage. It is located in a natural area surrounded by forests, about five kilometers from the center of Lloret de Mar.
In the direction of the beach is the Hermitage of Santa Cristina (km 13.7). It is located on a raised landing on the beach of Santa Cristina and Cala Treumal in Lloret de Mar, about 4 km from the center of the town of Lloret de Mar.
The march will end on the beach of Lloret de Mar, where a breakfast will take place for all the participants and a souvenir backpack will be given.
The Hermitage of Sant Quirze is located at a high point in the town, at the foot of Turó d'en Sala, and is the oldest hermitage in Lloret de Mar. It was built following the compositional laws of Catalan rural architecture before the 19th century. XI, abandoned from the 15th century and rebuilt and expanded during the 18th century.
The Hermitage of Les Alegries, located in the Les Alegries neighborhood, was the first parish church of Lloret de Mar, from its consecration in the year 1079 to 1522. It is believed that this location in the north of the town was chosen because it was the crossroads of the roads to Tossa de Mar, Maçanet de la Selva, Santa Coloma de Farners and Girona.
The Hermitage of Santa Cristina is located on a raised landing above the beach of Santa Cristina and Cala Treumal, about 4 km from the center of the town of Lloret de Mar. This baroque style building was built in 1764 by the Lloret de Mar fishing village, who wanted to show his devotion to his patron saint, Santa Cristina.
