The festivities of Sant Narcís de Girona are back

20.10.2022 Local festivities

From October 28 to November 6, the city of Girona will celebrate the festivities of Sant Narcís, in honor of the patron saint of the Catalan town. The program has more than 200 activities for young people, children and adults alike to enjoy the festivities. We tell you everything we know about traditional acts, concerts, family activities and the fair!

Traditional events

On Friday, October 28 at 6:00 p.m., just before the opening speech of the city, there will be a parade with the giants and the capgrossos of Girona, who will leave from different parts of the city and will meet in Plaça de Catalunya to go to Plaça of Vi.

The proclamation, which will be held at 8:00 p.m. in Plaza del Vi, will kick off the Sant Narcís festivities, and then rockets will be launched and a ring of fire will be lit in Plaza del Vi and in the neighborhoods Montjuïc, Pla de Palau, Taialà, Santa Eugènia, Sant Narcís, Pont Major and Font de la Pólvora.

On Saturday, October 29 at 11 a.m., the traditional mass of Sant Narcís will take place in the Basilica of Sant Feliu. On Sunday, October 30 at 11:30 a.m., a Diada Castellera (Human Towers’ Day) will be held with els Marrecs de Salt, els Minyons de Terrassa and els Capgrossos de Mataró.

This year, the Sant Narcís festivities recover all the popular and mass events that were canceled during the pandemic, such as the ascent of the 4-pillar of the human tower group els Marrecs de Salt up the steps of the Cathedral, which will take place on Tuesday 1 November at 8:00 p.m.

The correfocs are also back, which will be held by the Diables de l'Onyar from Plaça del Vi on Saturday, October 29 at 10:30 p.m. and the Trons de l'Onyar and the Petit Drac Major from Plaça de Sant Feliu on Saturday, November 5 at 8:00 p.m.

During the festivities, different food and craft fairs and markets will also take place in the Plaça de la Independència (from October 28 to November 6), the streets of La Devesa (from October 29 to November 1), the Pont de Pedra and the Rambla de la Llibertat (from October 28 to November 6).

A castle of firesworks will close the Sant Narcís festivities on November 6 at 8:00 p.m. in the Ribes del Ter park.

Concerts

The city of Girona will bet one more year on popular culture, with a musical program with outstanding numbers from the national scene and local talent in different neighborhoods of the city.

If you are one of those people who like to go to bed early, free concerts are held every night in the La Copa space (Carrer de Berenguer Carnicer, 2). Miki Núñez, Els Catarres, Doctor Prats and Skatalà will be the headliners of this stage.

This year, Girona will recover the barraques (stalls where drinks and food are sold) on the esplanade of La Copa; a total of 17 entities and associations in the city will have a bar to sell sandwiches and drinks during the concerts.

There will be another stage located in the Parc del Migdia (Carrer d'Oriol Martorell, 34), which will feature performances by La Ludwig Band and Ken Ishi. The Selvatana, Maravella, La Principal de la Bisbal and Montgrí’s orchestras will also perform there.

Family activities

As for the family activities, on Saturday October 29 at 11am the traditional penjada de mosques (fly-tying) will be held with the performance of Dinamo in Plaza de la Asunción.

The musical performances of Rock per Xics, Reggae per Xics and Lali BeGood in La Copeta should be highlighted. Orquestra Di-versiones will perform on November 1 at 6pm in a family concert.

Fair and amusement park

Like every year, a wide variety of fair stalls and attractions will be installed on the banana walks in the Devesa park, with one of the tallest Ferris wheels in Europe. November 3 will be the economic day of the fair and, starting at 5:00 p.m., there will be a 2x1 in all the attractions.
