Do you want to know how the Iberians lived in Lloret de Mar? You can do it at Can Saragossa, an old farmhouse that houses permanent exhibitions on how the Iberians lived in the municipality. Discover it!
Can Saragossa or Can Xardó is one of the oldest farmhouses in the town of Lloret de Mar, built by the Saragossa family around 1317, on the top of a small hill surrounded by forests, on the current Villa de Tossa avenue.
Although the Black Death left many farmhouses in a state of abandonment, Can Saragossa was not affected. In 1885, Narcís Saragossa Ametller became the heir owner of the farmhouse and commissioned remodeling works that gave the building the air of a modernist mansion.
The renovations, which took place between 1874 and 1902, turned it into a luxury summer resort, hosting personalities such as the president of the Generalitat of Catalonia, Lluís Companys, and his family.
In 1954, the farmhouse was converted into a hotel with ten rooms, active for ten years. Later, in 1984, the Lloret de Mar City Council acquired it, converting it into the headquarters of the City Council's Cultural Heritage Unit.
It is a neo-Gothic style building that consists of three floors. It has a practically square floor plan, with a total area of 290 m2. The facades of the house have been preserved and it has not undergone major changes since the beginning of the 20th century.
The roof of the property stands out, which staggers the roof into different strata, as if it were a staircase. The steps are adorned with plant-inspired friezes.
To reduce costs and, at the same time, avoid support problems due to the weight of the elements, the framework that ornaments the openings is made of plastered brick and cement, except for the projecting rock on the central balcony of the first floor, which is made of stone.

Currently, the ground floor of Can Saragossa houses the Interpretation Center of the Iberian world of Lloret de Mar, an archaeological museum with a collection of finds from the sites of the nearby Iberian towns of Montbarbat, Puig de Castellet and Turó Rodó.
The second floor of the building is dedicated to temporary exhibitions, mainly pictorial. Currently, there is the collection of drawings and some pictorial works in oil and watercolor by the painter Joan Llaverias i Labro.
Can Saragossa can be visited all year round. From April to October, visiting hours are from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., and from November to March, you can only visit from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. It is closed on December 25 and 26 and January 1 and 6.
