From February 17 to March 4, the municipalities of Blanes, Lloret de Mar and Tossa de Mar will celebrate the tenth edition of the South Costa Brava Carnival. After two years marked by sanitary restrictions, which made it impossible to hold large-format events with a high concentration of people, this year it is expected to recover the spectacularity of the years before the pandemic.
The Carnival of the Costa Brava Sur was created in 2012 with the aim of jointly promoting and coordinating one of the most popular festivals in the towns of the southern Costa Brava, the Carnival. The most massive event is the Carnival parade, which is attended every year by more than 120,000 spectators and more than 1,000 people participate.
The first parade will take place in Lloret de Mar on Saturday, February 18 at 4:00 p.m. and on Sunday, February 19 at 12:00 p.m.; it will continue in the town of Blanes on Sunday, February 19 at 5:00 p.m., and the last one will be held in Tossa de Mar two weeks later, on Saturday, March 4 at 4:30 p.m.
The town councils of these towns will offer sub sidies to the floats and troupes that participate in the carnival, as well as prizes for the best floats, troupes, individual costumes and small groups. In addition to the carnival parade, during these days a program will be offered with different activities related to this festivity.
In the town of Lloret de Mar, the Carnival parade will be held on the afternoon of Saturday, February 18, at 4:00 p.m., and on the morning of Sunday, February 19, at 12:00 p.m.. In addition to the parade, there will also be a costume contest at the workplace, a school parade, the women's dance and the burial of the sardine.
The population of Blanes will celebrate the Carnival parade on the afternoon of Sunday, February 19, at 5:00 p.m. It will start at Joaquim Ruyra boulevard with Riera Alta street and end at Països Catalans square, next to S'Abanell beach. In addition to the parade, the town of Blanes also organizes different activities designed for the little ones, such as workshops, inflatables, concerts or children's parades, among others.
In Tossa de Mar, the Carnival parade will take place two weeks later, on Saturday, March 4 at 4:30 p.m.. Among the activities organized in the town, there will be workshops, a costume contest at the workplace, a children's party, the burial of the sardine and a Carnival dinner.
