The Empordà enjoys unique geoclimatic conditions for growing vines due to its proximity to the Mediterranean Sea, with not too intense cold winters and hot summers tempered by sea breezes. The area is characterized by the strong tramontana wind that blows from the north and the heterogeneity of its soils, which range from sea level to 200 meters above sea level.

In the town of Cantallops, to the south of the Serra de L'Albera, there is Masia Serra. This winery with a family tradition that has become a benchmark in the Empordà. They have 13 hectares, 10 of which are vineyards, where they harvest white, red and red Garnacha, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc that are used to make white, red and sweet wines. They offer different types of wine experiences.
Also, in Cantallops there is the Vinyes dels Aspres winery, located in a 17th-century manor house that his heirs undertook to restore. They produce white, rosé, red and sweet wines exclusively from the autochthonous varieties of their vineyards (Garnacha blanca y tinta, Carinyena, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Merlot). They also stand out for their iconic sweet Grenache demijohns.
The small town of Capmany is considered the epicenter of viticulture in the Empordà due to the large number of wineries it has. One of them is Olivardots, which has 10 hectares of vineyards. Currently, new vineyards are being planted to recover autochthonous varieties such as Carinyena gris and Carinyena blanca. In 2019, it won the award for the best winery from the Catalan Association of Sommeliers.
In the Arché Pagès winery in Capmany, white, rosé and red wines with a unique personality are produced. They have 14 hectares of vineyards, where Garnacha negra, Carinyena, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Macabeo and Garnacha blanca are harvested.
Still in Capmany, is the Oliveda family winery, with more than 70 hectares where a wide variety of grapes are grown, such as Garnacha blanca, Macabeo, Chardonnay, Xarel lo, Sauvignon blanc, Moscatel, Garnacha gris, Garnacha tinta, Syrah, Carinyena, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, which are used to make their white, rosé, red, sweet wines and even cavas with Denomination of Origin.
The white, rosé, red and sweet wines from the Pere Guardiola in Capmany winery are the reflection of a family history linked to the Empordà. In its more than 30 hectares, they have Moscatel de Alejandría, Chardonnay, Xarel·lo, Garnacha blanca, Garnacha gris, Garnacha tinta, Carinyena tinta, Syrah, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grape varieties.
Oliver Conti, in Capmany, is a small winery created with the aim of producing high quality wines. It has 15 hectares where foreign and autochthonous varieties (Gewürztraminer, Macabeo, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Garnacha Tinta) are grown to produce exceptional white and red wines.
Celler Martí Fabra is located in the town of Sant Climent Sescebes, a historic winery located in a 12th-century farmhouse, where elegant wines with character are made from white and red Garnacha, white, red and red Carinyena, Moscatel, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Tempranillo, Syrah and Merlot, which they produce on old vines that are over 80 and 100 years old.
Terra Remota, in Sant Climent Sescebes, is a modern winery integrated into the Empordà landscape with more than 40 hectares where grape varieties such as Chardonnay, Xarel·lo, Garnacha blanca and tinta, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Tempranillo are grown to make their wines whites, pinks and reds.
Celler Cooperatiu d'Espolla is one of the oldest wineries in the Empordà region. The building has three naves, which have been reformed over the years. In its more than 150 hectares they produce grape varieties such as Macabeo, Moscatel de Alejandría, white, red and red Garnacha, white, red and red Carinyena, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Monastrell, Chardonnay and white Sauvignon.
La Vinyeta winery is located in the Empordà town of Mollet de Peralada. They produce white, rosé, red and sweet wines from varieties such as white, red and red Garnacha, Macabeo, Xarel·lo, Moscatel, Carinyena, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and Cabernet Franc. It offers the possibility of carrying out various activities related to the world of wine and was awarded in 2018 as the best winery by the Catalan Association of Sommeliers.
Cellers d'en Guilla is a young and modern winery located in the municipality of Rabós. It is known for cultivating red Garnacha (an autochthonous variety from the Empordà), as well as other varieties more widely used in the area such as white and red Garnacha, Macabeo and red Carinyena. In their 10 hectares of vineyards, they produce white, rosé, red and sweet wines.
Also, in the Empordà's town of Rabós is Celler Castelló Murphy, a small 12-hectare winery that produces young and aged white, rosé and red wines, from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Carinyena, Garnacha tinta and Muscat varieties collected at hand.
Mas Llunes is a family-owned winery with a long wine-growing tradition in Garriguella, which is why some of its vineyards are over a hundred years old. With 80 hectares of varieties such as red, white and red Garnacha, Macabeo, Moscatel, Carinyena, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, they produce different white, rosé, red and sweet wines.
Celler Perelada is surely the most emblematic winery in the territory and with the most international recognition. With a winemaking tradition of more than six centuries, they produce white, rosé, red, sweet wines and also cavas from grape varieties such as Chardonnay, Garnacha blanca and tinta, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Carinyena, Tempranillo, Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Macabeo and Monastrell.
